Cats love grass. The real type. It gives them precious folic acid.

This behavior is known as “herbivory” or “coprophagy” and has several reasons behind it.

  • Grass is rich in dietary fibre and it aids the cat in their digestive tracts, especially in the movement of hairballs.
  • Sometimes cats may eat grass to trigger vomiting if they have a sense of indigestion.
  • Grass has nutritional value, especially folic acid. Cats may instinctively feel the need for the nutrition.

It is perfectly natural for your cat to eat grass. In fact you should ensure you provide her with grass every once in a while.
