Why is she suspicious?

The clipped ear means she is spayed, meaning her reproductive organs have been removed. Well meaning animal lovers invest a lot of time and energy to do this, since in the long run it’s beneficial to everybody. The female cat is unable to reproduce every few months, so fewer stray kittens around. This kind of also helps the cat with her health.
